International DAAD Alumni Expert Seminar “Water and
Energy in South East Asia”
The
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides
financial means for conducting the Alumni Expert
Seminar “Water and Energy in South East Asia”.
The seminar is organised by the Centre for
International Capacity Development, Universität
Siegen, Germany and the Nong Lam University (NLU),
Vietnam in collaboration with Ruhr University Bochum
(RUB) and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in
Germany and the Vietnamese German University (VGU)
in Vietnam.
The seminar will be held from 25th March 2012 (day
of arrival) up to 02nd April 2012 (day of departure)
at NLU and VGU, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Water and energy play a crucial role in the
development of Mekong Subregion. This international
seminar addresses these key issues and will
highlight on the relation of the resources water and
energy by bringing scientists and experts from many
disciplines together. It will therefore contribute
to develop capacity building approaches in the field
of innovative technologies in water and renewable
energy for countries along Mekong river. This
occasion shall also be used to discuss research
needs and joint activities for sustainable
development of water and energy to be implemented
thereafter. Alumni of the region might form a
collaboration unit of further activities in the
region.
Presentations and papers of participants and invited
guests as well as group discussions will focus on:

Integrated water resource
management
-
Water use in agriculture
-
Waste water treatment and energy
-
Renewable energies (biomass,
bioenergy, wind energy, hydro power)
Two excursions related to the
mentioned topics will highlight the practical
components.
DAAD covers travel costs and accomodation for
invited participants from the region, esp Vietnam,
Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.
Target group are Alumni who have undertaken part of
their studies in Germany or with German assistance
through DAAD or other German foundations in the
region.
Covered costs include travel costs and accommodation
costs (including meals and coffee breaks) at the
workshop venue, and full coverage of course fees and
materials.
Participants shall currently working in the fields
of water and energy and/or are extending an
international research project, preferably with
contacts to German enterprises/universities.
