Braunschweig and Köln are Centres of Excellence in Development

 

 

The two GAWN members TU Braunschweig and FH Köln have won the award "Centre of Excellence in Development", a joint initiative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)

The Technical University of Braunschweig and the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and three other Universities are being awarded to join forces as excellence centres for promoting the Millennium Development Goals as the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Ms. Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul explained.

The project topic of the Technical University of Braunschweig is “Excellence through Dialogue – Sustainable Water Management in Developing Countries”. GAWN will collaborate within the framework of the programme and facilitates wiht networking activities.

The Cologne University of Applied Sciences will found a “Centre for Natural Resources and Development”. The winners will receive up to 5 Million Euro for promoting development cooperation.

GAWN congratulates the winners and looks forward to share the fruits of the work of the excellence centres with all Alumni in the network!



Further winners of the award are the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich, creating the “LMU Center for International Health”, the University of Hohenheim will set up a “Food Security Center”, and the University of Kassel will establish an “International Center for Development and Decent Work”.
