E-Learning for Integrated Watershed Management

The project E-Learning for Integrated Watershed Management is funded by the German Academic Exchange Agency (DAAD) and will run from 2008 to 2010. It aims at introducing e-learning into the teaching and learning practices in Eastern African universities in the area of Watershed Management.
The project consists of a series of expert workshops which aim to build up expertise in the development, execution and quality assurance of e-learning on the subject of IWM. A total of 4 consecutive expert workshops will take place between 2008 and 2010 - all on the specific task of development and implementation of e-learning for higher education. In addition, two further workshops on the theme "Building Community and Content Sharing" will help to establish the virtual "East African Watershed Management Forum".
The series of workshops takes an action oriented approach. Although each workshop will have a focus topic of practical and strategic importance, at the same time each workshop will enable the participants to develop a practical e-learning concept for their own professional practice. It is an important principle to be able to directly start with practical experiences using e-learning for the own professional practice in order to guarantee a long term competence development process. In between the workshops the work on the topics will continue online.
The overall workshop themes address all issues which are important for e-learning in higher education:

  • Workshop 1: Introduction to E-Learning and Development of materials for e-learning

  • Workshop 2: Effective Implementation of e-learning

  • Workshop 3: Quality assurance and sustainable anchor

  • Workshop 4: Transfer, strategy and organizational anchorage

In addition to the workshops there will be working groups installed. These long-term working groups work on various issues of importance and will collaborate in fora and virtual environments.
