DAAD-Alumni Expert Seminar “Water & Biodiversity”

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides financial means to the German Alumni Water Network (GAWN) for organizing an Alumni Expert Seminar to be held in Bangalore, India.

The Expert Seminar “Water & Biodiversity” is scheduled from November 1 2009 (day of arrival) until November 6 2009 (day of departure). It will be organized by the Master’s Program “Resources Engineering” at the Department of Civil Engineering, Geo- & Environmental Sciences at Universität Karlsruhe (TH), Karlsruhe, Germany in cooperation with the Department of Civil Engineering at University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), Bangalore, India. Upon successful application, 20 participants will be invited to India. The seminar language is English.

The key question of the seminar is “How can the increasing demand for water in developing countries be satisfied without jeopardizing biodiversity?”

-      Session I. Natural Resources Dynamics

-      Session II. Technical Management

-      Session III. Economic Management

-      Session IV. Administrative Management

-      Session V. Integrated Management

The program will include presentations by keynote speakers, five sessions on different aspects of “Water & Biodiversity” with presentations and discussions, an excursion and a closing plenary discussion including a summary of the main outcomes.

Participants will actively contribute to sessions by

-      presenting their projects, research or field reports,

-      chairing a session, and

-      attending session discussions and the closing plenary discussion.
