The German Academic Exchange
Service (DAAD) provided financial means for
conducting an International DAAD Alumni Summer
School “Integrated Watershed Management –
Financial Aspects of Watershed Management” to be
held in Moshi, Tanzania. The summer school was
organised by Universität Siegen and Sokoine
University of Agriculture, assisted by the Frankfurt School
of Finance and Management.
The objective of the summer school was to develop
concepts for financing sustainable watershed
management based on a holistic approach. Alumni
from the fields of engineering, geography,
social science, economics, and financing met to establish concepts for watershed management
plans as well as to enhance existing learning
modules in the respective fields.
Needs for developing integrated concepts for sustainable financing of
watershed management were adressed. A guideline has been developed
to write proposal directwed to national or international donors. An
analysis of known donors in the Kenyan and Tanzianian local context has
been undertaken.
The outcome shall serve as a basis for establishing ongoing studies and for the
evaluation of financial aspects of rural area
management plans. In this respect, Frankfurt
School of Finance and Management was able to
contribute its extensive experience acquired in
other African countries. Results will
be evaluated further in a sub-sequent summer
school in 2010.
